Jan Oosterveld retired in 2004 from Philips as a member of the Group Management Committee after a career of 32 years. From 1997 untill his retirement he was in charge of Corporate Strategy, Corporate Alliances, the Corporate Venturing activities, and the Corporate Restructuring office. He also was responsible for the Regional and Country organizations and on an ad-interim basis he was the CEO of Philips Asia Pacific. He designed and implemented a new strategy for the company in that region. From the start he was involved with the two joint ventures between Philips and LGE, South Korea and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of LG.Philips LCD in Seoul, the number two producer of LCD screens in the world and Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of LG.Philips Displays. He led the IPO of LG.Philips LCD in April 2004, the biggest IPO of the year in Asia.
He earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Factory Automation from the Eindhoven Technical University in 1969. In 1972 he received his Master’s degree in Business Administration at the IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, where he became a visiting Professor in 2002. In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate at the State University of Management in Moscow. Mr. Oosterveld is a member of the Supervisory Board of the University of Groningen, the Netherlands and Chancellor of the International Academy of Management.
In 2004, Mr. Oosterveld founded his consultancy companies in Spain and in the Netherlands. He holds a number of board seats: he is the Chairman of the Board of Crucell, a biotechnology company in the Netherlands, and member of the Board of Directors of Barco in Belgium, Candover and Cookson in London. He is a Senior Advisor of Morgan Stanley in London.
